Physical assault allegation and threats to staff
2019 - 2025
- The college president reported credible allegations that he physically assaulted a female employee at a 2019 college event.
- Then-president MacLennan told the board he personally witnessed the assault.
- He shouted at board attorney Jennifer Wood: "I ought to take you outside right now and kick your ass!"
- He told her his wife was "going to bitch slap you."
- A 2020 letter from fellow trustees cited "a number of past situations" perceived as "threatening, intimidating, and/or rude."
- The accreditor found the board majority's actions drove out all three vice presidents and a dean.

- Community members submitted 1,000 index cards calling for his removal.
- He attempted to shut down public comment before the college attorney intervened.
- After four years of his tenure, the accreditor suspended NIC's reviews until the college improved.

- The accreditor put the cost at $40,000 per athlete, inflating the budget by $4 million a year.

- NIC cut golf, affecting 11 student-athletes, and imposed a $1.8 million austerity plan.
